In the midst of every community, there will always be people who are less fortunate than others. These include the poor, weak, sickly or people with disability. It becomes more unfortunate when more than one element of misfortune befalls a person simultaneously.  This is so when a person with disability also happens to be poor or from a poor family.  In these circumstances, it is clearly impossible for the individual to struggle alone, without help or support from others.  And it becomes more tragic when the poor, disabled person happens to be too young to take care of themselves.

Set in this background and at the request of the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society established Moral Home for Disabled on 1st June 1989 to provide residential care for 22 children with intellectual disabilities when the Government divested its 6 children’s Homes.

As the children mature to 18 years old, they can no longer be accepted in the children’s home. With the support from Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, Moral Hostel for Disabled was established in 2005 to cater to providing residential care for young adults with intellectual disabilities age 18 and above. Today our young children can continue their stay. Both Home and Hostel programmes are housed at No. 20 Jalan Eunos.

Our Home provides shelter, warmth, care and love to children with intellectual disabilities, in particular to those without parental support or those whose parents are unable to care for them. Residents live together in harmony like brothers and sisters in a big family.  Our mission is to give warmth, care and love to our residents and provide a comprehensive education, including the moral and civic aspects of life, as well as to provide an environment for them to live in harmony and respect for each other’s race, colour, culture, language and religion.

With the barrier free access facilities in the Home, Moral Home for Disabled is able to introduce new initiatives and programmes for all residents in the areas of training and developmental growth, social recreational activities, employment or career opportunities as well as moral and civic aspects of life.

Those children who have stayed with us have moved to our new programme of Hostel services, where they are trained and developed for employment. Today we have prepared, trained and developed residents who are currently employed and receiving regular income.
