Moral Therapy Services (MTS) is a community project of the Society of Moral Charities (SOMC). It operates on a semi-social community enterprise concept focusing on providing quality rehabilitation services in the community for children, adults, and the elderly with disabilities, as well as training for caregivers and care providers. Moral Therapy Services consists of the three main components i.e. Moral Therapy Hub, The Children’s Therapy Centre and the Therapy Assistant training course.
Moral Therapy Hub
Moral Therapy Hub (MTH) was established in June 2005; is a project piloted, jointly established by the Society of Moral Charities and the National Council of Social Service; and supported by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports. MTH was conceptualized in response to the increasing need for community based rehabilitation therapy services in Singapore. The ‘stakeholders’ recognized the important and indispensable role of rehabilitation therapy in improving the quality of life for elderly and disabled individuals. By maximizing the potential of individuals and restoring each to their optimal independence level, elderly and disabled clients will be able to live a dignified, fulfilling and meaningful life. It also recognized the need to elevate the quality and standards of rehabilitation therapy at the community level. To this end, besides providing direct services, the Hub was entrusted to develop and put in place a ‘supervisory’, ‘mentoring’ and ‘consultancy’ capability.
The Children's Therapy Centre
The Children’s Therapy Centre was established in January 2009, in response to the growing demands for centre-based rehabilitation services to children with special needs. The centre houses a sensory integration gym as well as therapy rooms for occupational therapy, and speech and language interventions. Its focus is to provide specialized pediatric therapy services to children with developmental issues and physical disabilities. The centre aims to provide a positive environment for children and their families to ensure that they receive quality rehabilitation services. It is staffed by a team of experienced and dedicated occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists.
Therapy Assistant Training Course
The Therapy Assistant training course is a national Workforce Development Agency (WDA) accredited programme, and was established in April 2009. The training programme is a 40-hour module and is run part-time currently. The training prepares trainees on the job scopes required as a therapy assistant when assisting therapists in the fields of occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech therapy; besides understanding the therapy care plans for individuals, able to report and document procedures done.
