Moral Family Service Centre (Bukit Panjang) welcomes anyone that comes knocking on its doors for assistance. Clients will generally be contacted within three working days (excluding Saturday) of referral.
Services
As key providers of professional social intervention to families in need, the Centre places focus on two main services:
- Information and Referral (I&R)
- Casework and Counseling (C&C)
It also runs a Family Support Programme (FSP) for C&C clients.
I&Rworks to link families to appropriate social services for any problems they might have as complex needs of a family may require expertise in specific areas.
Clients have the option of calling, walking-in, writing or e-mailing the Centre to obtain parenting resource materials, or to seek advice from our qualified staff on issues on how to care for an elderly patient for example.
C&Cis a support service which aims to achieve enhanced problem-solving and coping skills as well as enhanced relationships/networks that help clients improve their situation and improve their ability to manage on their own.
In addition, it focuses on helping individuals and families develop insight into their situation and explore the various ways of handling and resolving their social and emotional difficulties. Caseworkers will attempt to work with the client referred in most instances. However, where appropriate and with the client’s consent, the assistance of family members and others may also be sought.
Through C&C, these people in need are helped to regain stability and independence where counseling is an integral part of the process. Types of issues which may be suitably handled by C&C include:
- Family violence
- Parenting issues
- Care-giving difficulties
- Martial issues
-
Financial difficulties
Family Support Programme
The Centre runs support groups for parents, couples and special interest groups (e.g., those dealing with violence).
Moral Family Service Centre (Bukit Panjang)
Moral Family Service Centre (Bukit Panjang), located at Petir Road aims to serve the residents in Bukit Panjang, Cashew-Senja and Zhenghua by providing them with an avenue to seek help. The heartland location allows the Centre to be more responsive and sensitive to the needs of these people and to remain relevant to the needs of the community. The Centre has a welcoming environment with approachable staff and is easily accessible to nearby residents. The Centre regularly conducts needs assessment activities aimed at identifying welfare and social needs of families in the community. These assessments enable the Centre to formulate strategies in partnering other agencies to address the needs of the community.
Volunteers – How can they help?
Volunteers are an invaluable resource to the Centre. They act as ears, eyes and helping hands to the community. Volunteers are residents that make the effort to look out for needy neighbours and help inform the Centre of such families and individuals so that its caseworkers can step in and offer necessary and appropriate assistance. Volunteers can also help by taking on the role of befrienders and provide safe, reliable, one-to-one social contact which brings companionship, interest and fun to a person’s life.
