Singapore Mint Lunar Fair and Charity Fundraiser

Singapore Mint and THK usher in the Year of the Boar

Vividly coloured piggy banks and a meaningful cause to kick start the year.

From the 5 – 14 th January, Singapore Mint launched its Lunar Fair at Suntec City Mall Tropics Atrium to welcome the Year of the Boar. At the same time, Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society was honoured to be selected as co-organiser and beneficiary for its fund raising drive.

Visitors to the event were thrilled to be greeted by the exhibition of endearing and creatively coloured piggy banks. With some coaching from artists from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, the adorable piggy banks were lovingly and painstakingly painted by prominent personalities in support of the fund raising event.

The prominent persons who participated in the event include Dr Ho Kah Leong, President of Singapore Arts Federation; Mr Michael Ng, President and CEO of Singapore Mint; Mrs Chua Thian Poh from Ho Bee Group; Ms Chong Phit Lian, CEO of Jetstar Asia Airways Pte Ltd; Mr Gerard Ee, Chairman of National Kidney Foundation; several MediaCorp artistes such as Zoe Tay, Chew Chor Meng, Pan Ling Ling, as well as our very own THK Chairman and CEO. We are greatly appreciative to all kind contributors for their time and effort that resulted in their creations being auctioned off on the Singapore Mint internet portal.

Donations received and proceeds from the auction of the painted piggy banks will go toward the over 50 social welfare services, programmes, Centres, Homes and Hospital under THKMS which aim to serve anyone in need of help.

You might be wondering why it is known as the Year of the Boar rather than Year of the Pig. This is because while the pig connotes indulgence and passiveness, the boar symbolises trustworthiness, fortitude and a charging ahead with determination. THK sincerely sends its well-wishes to everyone and may the Year of the Boar will bring about renewed zest to pursue life to the fullest.
